In this era of phablets, we find it nice when companies launch compact size devices that are perfect for use with one hand, for example, while lying on our backs. The ZTE Majesty Pro Plus is that device that fits this purpose. It is a compact 4.5-inch smartphone with an impressive performance to help you achieve all of your daily tasks. Interestingly, it comes with the most recent Android 7.0 Nougat that promises a smooth user interface and tonnes of features. It has a powerful 1.1GHz quad-core processor, long-lasting 2100mAh battery, 16GB of internal memory and 2GB of RAM. Let’s dive into the full review.
The ZTE Majesty Pro Plus is available from Straight Talk, Total Wireless, and TracFone Wireless. We have the version from TracFone Wireless, which comes in a nice box, befitting its size. The box has the phone features and the TracFone logo written over it. In the box, we have the ZTE Majesty Pro Plus gadget, back cover, wall adapter charger, standard USB cable, standard user manual, quick setup guide, and the service guide.
ZTE Majesty Pro Plus is the successor to the original ZTE Majesty Pro, which you can read about from the link. The two phones are no different when it comes to their exterior design. They are both black in color, with a 4.5-inch display, and have a removable back cover although the battery is fixed. The back cover is ridged for a comfortable and firm grip; hence the device won’t easily slide out of your hands. The upper part of the back cover has the camera and LED flash, while the bottom part has the handsfree speaker. When the back cover is off, it reveals the battery which is non-removable and the slots for the microSD and SIM card.
The edges follow the typical design of ZTE smartphones. The USB/charging port sits on the left edge and the volume rockers on the right edge. There’s nothing on the bottom edge, while the power/lock key and headphone jack sit on the top edge.
On the front panel, sits a 4.5-inch display. The upper part of the screen hosts the LED indicator, earpiece, proximity sensor, and the front camera lens. The backlit physical navigation keys sit on the bottom edge: back key on the left, home key in the middle, recent apps key on the right. While we would expect software inbuilt floating navigation keys, the physical haptic keys have an advantage. They remain accessible even when viewing a full-screen game or video, so you can easily exit to the home screen or switch to a different app using the Recent Apps Key.
The ZTE Majesty Pro sports a 5MP back camera and 2MP front camera. For a phone in this price line, the ZTE Majesty Pro Plus performs sufficiently good. The back camera will ensure you capture memorable moments whether it’s daytime or night time, thanks to the bright LED flash. The camera also has the autofocus feature which helps fine-tune the focus of the camera to ensure clear shots. The front camera, which is quite limited in terms of pixels is only good for video calls and capturing portrait photos. Surprisingly, the phone can shoot high definition 720p videos which we found to be interesting.
ZTE Majesty Pro Plus has a 4.5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 480 x854 pixels. This is a competitively good display for a phone in this price bracket. Even at 4.5-inch size, you can easily utilize the multi-window view in Android 7.0 Nougat to view two apps on the screen. The multi-touch display is quite responsive with no noticeable lag when switching between apps or swiping across the screen. While indoors, the screen visibility is great with clear photos, videos and application interfaces. While outdoors, the screen automatically brightens up to allow easy visibility, thanks to the ambient light sensor. However, it tends to struggle a little in direct sunlight, which is normal for most smartphones in this bracket.
ZTE Majesty Pro Plus ships with an internal storage of 16GB. Out of this, about 10GB is available for your use. This is an incredible amount of storage for a phone coming at this price. This is also where the ZTE Majesty Pro Plus differs with the ZTE Majesty Pro, which comes with 8GB of internal storage. Additionally, the phone supports external memory expansion up to 32GB with a microSD card. It supports the microSDHC memory card. This gives you more storage for your files, videos, and photos.
The ZTE Majesty Pro Plus comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 2100mAh battery. At first, you may think less of the battery capacity, but putting all factors on the table, you will be pleasantly surprised. With a 4.5-inch display and a less power-hungry processor, the phone will last just long enough, till you are done with your workday. The battery is rated to give up to 11 days of standby, and up to 12 hours of talk time. In our test, the phone went through a workday of regular use. Regular usage involves occasional texting, phone calls, checking emails and responding to social media chats. For intensive usage involving YouTube streaming or gaming, the phone should give about 5 hours before requiring a recharge.
The ZTE Majesty Pro Plus performance is impressive for a phone in this price bracket. Out of the box, the gadget comes running Android 7.0 Nougat, which is a recent version of the Android operating system. It provides major productivity features such as intense multi-tasking where you can have a multi-window view; two apps placed on the screen and running concurrently. In this case, you can listen to a YouTube song while you text on Messenger or WhatsApp. Moreover, the operating packs some of the best Google features such as the Google voice assistant and a smooth user interface. The ZTE Majesty Pro Plus is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. It is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz. The runtime memory on the ZTE Majesty Pro Plus has been upgraded to 2GB as compared to the 1GB RAM on the original ZTE Majesty Pro. If you are looking for reasons to upgrade from the Majesty Pro to the Majesty Pro Plus, then you have three reasons: double storage capacity, double RAM, and the more recent Android 7.0 Nougat.
The graphics department is facilitated by the Adreno 304 GPU. This GPU is quite capable of handling the less intensive games without a sweat. It nicely plays videos on YouTube with a resolution of up to 720p, which is the same for videos saved on the phone. The 4G LTE capable card will ensure faster browsing and no buffering when enjoying online streaming. Call quality is good on TracFone wireless which connects to Verizon towers.
Other typical phone features include proximity/ ambient light sensor, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, accelerometer, and compatibility with hearing aids. The ambient light sensor helps in adjusting screen brightness or disabling screen touch sensitivity when you place it on your ear during a call. The GPS is fast in pinpointing your location to help you navigate in the right direction. The phone’s overall usability is great, you will be impressed with its decent performance and compact size.
