The ZTE Citrine Z717VL has many features to offer despite being on the lower end tier. It features a 4-inch TFT display, has 4G LTE high-speed internet connectivity, 1.1GHz quad-core processor, and comes running Android 5.1 Lollipop. The ZTE Citrine Z717VL can be compared to other similar Tracfone smartphones like the LG Rebel because of similar features. Let's get into our full review of the ZTE Citrine Z717VL.
The ZTE Citrine Z717VL is available for ordering from the Tracfone Wireless website. It comes in a nicely packaged box that includes the ZTE Citrine gadget, battery, wall adapter charger, standard USB cable, phone feature guide, activation card, and a quick setup guide.
The ZTE Citrine Z717VL has a quite typical design with the back cover being the one unique thing. This is because it has some textured ridges that feel really nice in the palm. The back cover is also home to the rear lens, LED flash, and the hands-free speaker. You will notice the camera is slightly protruding out on the back panel giving a small bump when you place the phone on a flat surface. You may remove the back cover to gain access to the battery compartment and the SIM card and microSD slots.
Going on to the frame, we have the microUSB port on the left edge and the volume rockers on the right edge. The top of the phone contains a headphone jack, noise cancellation mic, and the power/lock key. The bottom edge only has the microphone.
Coming to the front panel, you will find the 4-inch display. The top of the display has the earpiece, front camera lens, proximity/ambient light sensor, and a LED indicator. That is it for the design; we now move on to the camera.
The ZTE Citrine Z717VL features a 5MP back camera and a 0.3MP front camera. The camera specs are not that great which is expected at this price but they shoot quite decent photos and videos. The back camera has a LED flash that supports shooting pictures even in less light. The front camera lacks a LED flash so it will only shoot in good lighting. Nevertheless, the front camera will do great on video calls and self-portraits.
Despite only having 5-megapixels on the back, the camera can shoot 720p videos at 30fps when the lighting is good enough. The camera supports geotagging, and you have an option to adjust ISO level, exposure time, and white balance. All the camera controls are easily located in the camera app.
ZTE Citrine Z717VL features a 4.0-inch TFT display which is expected for phones within this price line. The screen is bright enough and very compact for one-handed operation. It's also quite responsive and supports multi-touch, making it possible for zooming or gaming.
The ZTE Citrine Z717VL features a 1650mAh battery that will give you up to 12 hours of standby and up to 10 days of standby. The battery life is quite impressive given the phone has a medium size screen that's very efficient on battery. I could go a full day when using the phone for my regular tasks which the phone is meant for. The battery is removable. I find this nice, especially for heavy users who may need to have a spare battery for emergencies.
The internal storage capacity on the ZTE Citrine Z717VL is 8GB, with about 4GB of this available to the user. For users who require more space like myself, the phone has support for external memory expansion up to 32GB with a microSD card.
The ZTE Citrine Z717VL is quite a performer. It comes running Android 5.1 Lollipop which is a recent Operating System, though not the latest. The phone will comfortably run over a million apps from Google Play Store, and you will be able to enjoy certain Android Lollipop features such as Google Now.
The phone is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. I find these to be incredible specifications for the price of the phone. The ZTE Citrine Z717VL will handle multitasking quite well thanks to the quad-core processor and the advanced capabilities of Android Lollipop.
The ZTE Citrine Z717VL falls in the group of the few phones under $50 with 4G LTE capabilities. This is a major selling point on the phone. It will offer you the fastest internet connectivity. With Tracfone Wireless, call quality is great as well.
Some typical features found on every other phone like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS are also available on the ZTE Citrine. The ambient light sensor on the front panel is a nice feature that helps adjust the brightness of the phone automatically. Check out the list of specifications below.
