What We Love

  • 4G Network Speed
  • Powerful dual-core processor
  • Very compact

ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G is a 3.5-inch entry-level smartphone that comes running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and powered by a 1.2GHz Dual-core processor. It's a GSM phone hence activated on the AT&T network. So before making an order, be sure to check that you have AT&T coverage or cell towers in your home area. The ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G was launched after the ZTE Whirl, meaning it came with improved features, for example, 4G high-speed internet connectivity. The ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G includes all the minimum functionalities a smartphone needs. Read on to find out more.

The ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G is a prepaid mobile phone which you can order from Straight Talk. In the box, you will find the ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G phone, battery, wall adapter charger, standard USB cable, activation card, service guides and quick reference guide. The initial setup will involve installing the battery and the back cover then power on. After booting up, adding your configurations is a quick process which can take not more than 5 minutes. It might be slow on first boot, which you will probably notice, but subsequent boots, it picks up fast.

ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G being a lower end device, the design around it is typical, but it doesn't sell short either. First, you will notice a textured back cover, which feels good in the palm. The corners are slightly rounded.

Going to the side, we have the volume rockers along with the micro USB charging port on the left edge. On the right edge, we have the microSD card slot. I found this to be a nice thing because you don't have to remove the back cover and battery before accessing the microSD slot like other phones in this price range.

On the top edge, you will find the headphone jack as well as the power button. The bottom edge is flat - no buttons or slots whatsoever. The back cover holds the camera on the upper part and your speaker on the bottom. We have the 3.5-inch screen on the front with the navigation buttons just below it in this arrangement: the back button is on the left, the home button in the middle, and the menu button on the right. One good thing about the navigation buttons is that they are backlit so that you will be comfortable using the phone even in the dark.

ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G comes with a 3MP back camera which performs quite well. It, however, lacks the 'selfie' cam which is expected for a phone in its price range. The camera does a good job in bright settings and well-lit rooms. A LED flash is not available on the phone, so dark environments is a no-go. It does produce good photos, as I found out. It includes some great features which I found interesting, for instance, support for digital zoom, taking still shots while recording video.

The phone comes with a 3.5-inch display. It's quite a small screen, but it is sufficient enough to give you a clear view of what is showing up on the screen. I didn't find any problem with brightness. While indoors, I enjoy browsing through my gallery, the photos are clear enough. The screen dims in bright sunlight, but that's expected on low-end phones. Videos also show up bright enough when you hold the phone in landscape. However, the characters may be a bit grizzled when you view from angles. The screen responds to touch quite well; I noticed when it came to zooming in and out on photos.

Battery capacity on the ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G is 1500mAh. You might think this won't last, but that is not the case. From the fact that ZTE Whirl 2 is a very compact device, this battery produces enough juice to keep it running a full work day. It's rated at 10 hours of talk time and 7 days of standby which is pretty impressive for a phone in the lower end tire. The battery is also removable/replaceable, so you can always carry a spare in case it runs out when on a mission.

Onboard the ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G is 4GB of internal storage. This can be supplemented with an external microSD card of up to 32GB. If looking for a phone to get by, then the internal storage will be sufficient. Otherwise, finding an external memory card can be an advantage so that you save all your moments.

The ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G ships with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean which, although not the latest Operating System, gives you access to thousands of apps on Google Play Store. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2GHz dual-core processor paired with 512MB of RAM. I found the performance to be quite good, despite the limited resources on the phone. Screen response time is fast with negligible hesitation when you zoom in and rotate, and I think this is a great thing.

One feature I found incredible on the ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G is the support for 4G internet connectivity. Note that this is not 4G LTE which is extremely fast, but just 4G. Nevertheless, 4G is way faster than 3G, and I noticed how fast the phone was able to load and stream videos. Now YouTube is one of the apps people use most. The ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G performs well on YouTube, regarding loading videos and playing, probably because of the powerful processor. Even the sound quality is nice. However, the small screen limits the quality of the video regarding resolution, but again this is understandable for a phone in the low-end tire.

The phone comes installed with all the Google apps like Gmail, Hangouts, Google Plus, Maps, etc. Talking of maps; the ZTE Whirl 2 Z667G supports live map navigation which employs the GPS capabilities of the phone. The Google Maps application is also very responsive as I noticed, and it also loads pretty fast, thanks to the 4G internet connectivity. The phone is Bluetooth 4.0 enabled, so sharing files between two nearby devices is an easy process. It also has compatibility for Hearing Aid.
