ZTE Atrium Z793C is a 4.5-inch smartphone that comes with Android 4.4 KitKat easily customizable to fit your life. It has a powerful dual-core processor and a long battery life. Coupled with the phone are the Amazing Straight Talk, Tracfone, Total Wireless and Net 10 Wireless Plans which I will discuss later in this review. Let's find out more as we go along with this hands-on review.
I received my order in a nice Straight Talk box. Cutting the box open revealed the 4.5-inch ZTE Atrium Z793C device. Other items included in the box are the wall adapter, a standard USB cable, manuals and services guides, and the Straight Talk activation card. Below is a description of the exterior features.
The ZTE Atrium Z793C is a 4.5-inch device, with slightly rounded corners. I can say it's outer appearance is beautiful to behold. The placement of the power and volume buttons is also cool. We have the power button on the upper-right side of the phone. Opposite the power button, is the headphone jack and also your noise cancellation mic.
The volume buttons are located on the right-hand side of the phone. At the bottom part is where we have the USB port for charging and USB data transfer.
The front of the device holds the 4.5-inch screen. At the top of the display is the front camera for taking selfies. The bottom part of the screen contains the navigation buttons. The arrangement is such that the back button is on the far left, the home button in the middle, and the recent apps button on the far right.
Coming to the back, we have the camera with a LED flash just opposite it. The main speaker is at the bottom right of the back cover. The back cover can be removed to reveal the battery, and SIM and microSD card slots.
The ZTE Atrium Z793C comes with a 5 MP back camera that takes quite good pictures. In fact, for a mid-range phone, the quality of pictures impressed me. The LED flash helps the camera perform well even in low light environments. In pro mode, the camera has some useful features such as panorama. It has a 0.3 MP front camera, which even though is short on pixels, does a good job in bright surroundings. It will come in handy in taking self-portrait photos and video calling.
The display on the ZTE Atrium Z793C is 4.5 inch in size with a resolution of 480 X 854 pixels. It's a powerful TFT screen that doesn't break easily. I enjoy watching content, especially from YouTube and the videos showed up fine on the screen. Even browsing through my gallery, the photos were clear enough. Twisting the phone to view videos from angles could show some blurred corners, but overall, the screen is fairly good for a mid-range phone.
Battery life of the ZTE Atrium Z793C is impressive. It has a powerful 2000mAh battery with a talk time of 12 hours and a standby time of up to 8 days. This is good, given I consider battery life when looking to buy a new phone. The phone could last a day and remain with some 20% of charge while doing typical operations like replying to my emails, looking up some information on the internet, making a few phone calls and some chatting on my social media accounts.
The internal storage on the ZTE Atrium Z793C is quite limited; it ships with only 4 GB. Good thing though, it has a microSD card slot that you can use to expand the storage with an external memory card of up to 32GB. With 32GB plus the internal 4GB, you can be sure to hold more content on the phone.
Onboard the ZTE Atrium Z793C is Android 4.4 KitKat. It is powered by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor operating at 1.2GHz. This processor paired with a 1GB of RAM makes the overall performance of the phone good.
I didn't find any issues when dealing with the phone. Navigation is smooth. It has a recent apps button, so switching between recently launched apps is very fast. I installed some light games to test the graphics, and the performance was quite good.
I also enjoyed browsing the internet; switching between web pages on the 4.5-inch display with minimum delays thanks to the 1GB RAM. The 3G internet speed on the phone paired with a straight talk plan is a perfect combination.
The phone comes with basic utility apps installed. Google Play is installed, so once you sign in, you can download hundreds of apps from Google Play Store that Android KitKat supports by default.
Other connectivity features on the phone include 4.0 Bluetooth, GPS for location services, proximity sensor, and accelerometer. The accelerometer is necessary when performing actions that are activated by tilting your phone, for example controlling game characters.
