What we love

  • 3G Internet Connectivity
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Compact 4-inch display
  • Dual-core processor
  • Affordably priced

The ZTE Paragon Z753G is a very compact 4-inch smartphone running Android 4.4 KitKat. This is an entry-level device, but it does come with some nice specs such a dual-core processor. It's a GSM phone meaning it is activated on the AT&T network, so before ordering be sure to check that you have AT&T cell towers/coverage in your home area. Let's find out what the device offers starting off with the unboxing.

The ZTE Paragon Z753G is a prepaid Smartphone available for ordering from the Straight Talk Website or the Net10 Wireless website. In the purchase box, we have the ZTE Paragon device, battery, wall adapter charger, a standard USB cable, activation card, service guide and a quick reference guide. Mine actually came with a fully charged battery so installed and completed the initial setup phase which is pretty straight forward.

Like all entry-level phones from ZTE, the exterior layout of the ZTE Paragon Z753G is quite typical so nothing extraordinary on the design. The volume rockers, as well as the microUSB charging port, are on the left edge; the right edge is flat with no buttons. The top edge hosts the headphone jack as well as the power button. The bottom edge is flat as well with no button whatsoever.

The 4-inch display sits on the front. The upper part has the earpiece, proximity sensor, and the front facing camera. The lower part of the screen has the physical navigation buttons. Although the navigation buttons are not the floating type as in later versions of Android, they are backlit so using your phone in the dark won't be a problem. Actually, the ambient light sensor automatically detects the surrounding lighting conditions and either lights the navigation buttons up or turns off the backlight which I found to be cool.

The back cover is home to the rear camera with its LED flash on the upper part, and the speaker on the lower part. The back is removable to reveal the battery compartment as well as the SIM and the microSD slots.

There's a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 0.3MP front-facing camera on the ZTE Paragon Z753G. I did like the back camera because it takes some nice pictures, it has a LED flash, so photo capture in low light is not a problem. The front camera though short on pixels comes in handy for video calling. Considering the price, I think it's nice ZTE placed a front camera on the Paragon since it's highly unlikely for phones in this price range to have front cameras. The camera includes some additional features and settings such Auto, Manual, HDR, Panorama, Smile, and Interval. Additionally, it has up to 6 filters you can apply to pictures.

The display on the ZTE Paragon Z753G is a 4-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. I found the screen to be responsive to the slightest touch and to zoom. Given it supports multi-touch, you won't have a problem with controlling games or any action that necessitates the use of more than one finger, such as zooming. Indoor brightness is great. For outdoor visibility, the screen adapts appropriately, though not extremely bright, you can see items. Thanks to the ambient light sensor, brightness increases when you go outside and reduces when you get indoors or in low light settings.

The battery capacity on the ZTE Paragon Z753G is 1650mAh which gives the device a talk time of up to 12 hours and a standby time of up to 6 days. Since the phone doesn't have an extremely large display to put much strain on the battery, it can last a full working day on battery. That is if you are only using it for operations that don't require consistent internet access. As you may know, web services such as video streaming or live map navigation drain the battery faster. So, with the ZTE Paragon Z753G, you are looking at about 5 hours of video streaming. If you are just a regular user, the phone should last you a day and still have some life percentage left. The battery is removable, so if planning to stay out long, you can always have a spare for replacing in case it runs out while you are on the go.

The ZTE Paragon Z753G ships with an internal storage capacity of 4GB, which gives you almost 2GB of usable space. Now this space is quite limited, but considering this is an entry-level gadget, other features had to be compromised. The good thing about it is that it supports an external microSD card of up to 32GB. This is great because you can store a lot of content on a 32GB storage space.

When it comes to performance, the ZTE Paragon Z753G is an average. It comes running Android 4.4 KitKat, which although not the latest, has some cool features and supports most apps on Play Store. KitKat provides a more polished design, faster multitasking, and improved performance and voice command through the Google Now app. With voice command you can play a song, send a text, or send an email, simply by saying 'OK Google' while in the Google Now app.

ZTE Paragon Z753G is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8210 1.2GHz dual-core processor paired with 1GB RAM. In my usage, I didn't find any problem with the performance of the ZTE Paragon. It's very responsive, video playing is great, and most operations went smoothly. Other typical features of the phone include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, proximity/ambient light sensor, gravity sensor. The proximity/ambient light sensor detects the amount of light in the immediate surrounding and either increases or reduces the screen brightness. It also detects when you place your phone on the ear during a phone call, and locks the screen hence extending your battery life. Overall, this is a nice budget phone that comes with all the features you would need in a smartphone.
