What We Love

  • Fast internet connectivity with LTE speed.
  • Compact display for one hand operations.
  • A powerful dual-core processor.

Overview

The ZTE Force is a budget smartphone that features a 4-inch display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, back and front cameras, and 4GB of internal storage. Though on the lower end tier, the phone does include some nice features like LTE that gives you super-fast internet connectivity. Let's discover more as we go along in this review.

Unboxing

The Prepaid ZTE Force is available from the FreedomPop Wireless website for ordering. The packaging looks nice from the outside. In the box, you will find the ZTE Force smartphone, battery, wall adapter, standard USB cable, service guide and phone manuals.

Design

The exterior design of the ZTE Force looks a bit premium due to the black and silver detail on the frame and body. It's not exactly metal, but the silver coating makes it look nice. On the front, we have the 4-inch display. The top of the screen has the front camera lens, LED indicator, and the earpiece. The bottom of the screen has the physical navigation keys. The arrangement is such that; the back button sits on the left, the home button in the middle, and the menu key on the right.

The frame of the ZTE Force includes the volume rockers and USB/charging port on the left, headset jack and power button on the top, and camera shortcut button on the right. There's no button nor port on the bottom edge, just your microphone.

The back panel has a nice texture to it which feels nice in the palm. On the back cover, you will find the camera, LED flash and the hands-free speaker. It can also be removed to reveal the battery compartment and the slots for the SIM and microSD card. That sums up our hardware tour, so let’s check out what is in store for the camera.

camera.jpg

Camera

Despite being on the lower end market, the ZTE Force features some nice cameras. It does have a 5MP back camera and a 1MP front camera. The back camera has the autofocus feature that lets you capture sharp pictures and videos. Furthermore, there's a LED flash accompanying the back lens so that low light setting won't prevent you from capturing photos or videos.

The camera's default mode evaluates the environments and captures photos using the most optimum settings. If you would like to experiment more, the camera has the pro mode that will let you adjust settings like ISO values and white balance to your liking.

You may also capture 780p videos at 30fps which I found to be nice on a budget smartphone. The 1MP front camera will help mainly in video calling. The pixels being so limited, it may not be the best for group selfies. However, self-portraits will be okay.

display.jpg

Display

The display on the ZTE Force is a 4-inch IPS Capacitive Touchscreen. This will give you a resolution of 480 x 800 and a pixel density of 233ppi. The screen quality is okay for the price you are getting the phone with. You are able to see everything sharp and clear.

battery.jpg

Battery

The battery capacity on the ZTE Force is 1730mAh which gives up to 9 hours of talk time. You may think this is a small battery capacity, but it can surely give you a full day if you are a regular user. This is because the display is compact and the resources it packs are not that power intensive. Additional, you are free to swap the battery with another one if it runs out while you are on the go.

storage.jpg

Storage

The storage capacity on the ZTE Force is 4GB of onboard memory. Out of this, about 2GB is available to the user. Moreover, the device offers an option to expand the storage with an external microSD card up to 64GB.

performance.jpg

Performance

ZTE Force packs everything you need to achieve regular daily tasks such emails, phone calls, browsing and texting. It comes running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which supports over a 100,000 apps on Google Play Store. It has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. With a few apps running in the background, the phone will operate smoothly. For the price it comes with, the ZTE Force performance is great.
