Motorola Moto E Design

At first glance, the Moto E has a minimalistic design that looks as good as high-end smartphones. On the front is an ultra-wide display with a thick bottom bezel. The teardrop notch allows for larger screen space. With dimensions of 6.29 x 3.02 x 0.34 inches, the budget smartphone feels similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8+. It is not slippery to hold and is easy to operate with one hand.

The water-repellent design ensures that minor spills or splashes do not affect the Motorola phone. The back of the device has a reflective surface that makes it remarkably appealing. Dual cameras are hosted on the top-left edge with an LED flashlight. A fingerprint reader is in the middle engraved with the Motorola logo.

On the right edge, you get the volume rocker and power button. It is easy to recognize and access the power button due to its slight texture. The speaker, micro USB charging port, and microphone are left to right on the bottom edge. A SIM card tray is on the left edge of the device. An essential feature on the top edge is the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a rarity nowadays. Overall, it’s a very well-put-together smartphone.

Camera Divider

Motorola Moto E Camera

With the Moto E 2020, you get two cameras at the back of the smartphone. This dual rear camera system makes it an attractive choice for budget phone users who love clicking pictures. It comes with the following cameras:

  • 13MP main camera
  • 2MP depth sensor
  • 5MP front camera

The 13MP primary camera comes with phase detection auto-focus that instantly lets you focus on the object and click clear pictures, whereas the depth sensor adds a beautiful blur effect to the images. AI further enhances the pictures ensuring better camera performance.

Capture big smiles every time with the auto-smile feature. The AI automatically recognizes when everybody in the frame is smiling and clicks the picture. Portrait mode helps you take beautiful close-ups using the depth camera. With spot color mode, you can keep one color in the image while turning everything else black and white. Another cool editing feature is the cutout mode, which lets you change the background completely.

Under good lighting, the rear camera clicks pictures with decent detail and colors. These photos are suitable to post on social media. The 5MP selfie camera is good for making video calls. The camera app has a clean, straightforward design with Google Lens integration.

Display Divider

Motorola Moto E Display

Watch more of what you love with the large 6.2-inch Max Vision display on Moto E. Its 19:9 aspect ratio ensures a seamless viewing experience while facilitating one-hand use.

We loved watching movies and playing games on this large display. Its 720 x 1520 pixel resolution provides stunning clarity as the content appears sharp and clear. Color accuracy is decent, and the text is easily readable. The pixel density of the phone is 271 PPI. Given its reasonable price, the device’s large screen is its most attractive feature.

Battery Divider

Motorola Moto E Battery

Motorola claims that Moto E can last up to two days on normal usage. With a 3,550 mAh battery, you can play games and browse the web with confidence. The 3,500 mAh battery allows you to stream 103 hours of music and 11 hours of video content. With basic tasks such as call and text, we were able to make it to the next day. However, with heavy usage, we had to plug in the phone at the end of the day. The device comes bundled with a 5W charging adapter.

Storage Divider

Motorola Moto E Storage

Store your favorite apps, photos, and videos with 32 GB of storage. A total of 18 GB is available for personal use out of 32 GB. As you store more data on your device, you may run out of space. Therefore, a microSD card slot also allows you to add up to 512 GB of more storage. In our opinion, 512 GB is more than enough space to store large files, including more music, movies, pictures, and videos.

Performance Divider

Motorola Moto E Performance

In terms of performance, the Moto E delivered as it should. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 octa-core processor combined with 2GB RAM has all the power you need to do critical day-to-day tasks such as calling, texting, web browsing, or streaming. We didn’t encounter any slowdown or lag when scrolling or switching between text and web. While the budget device isn’t designed for heavy gaming, you can still play some games at low settings.

The most notable feature of a Motorola smartphone is the clean interface and near-stock Android experience. It runs on Android 10 out of the box, which is free of unnecessary bloatware. Apps are neatly stacked, making it easy to find what you are looking for. Similar to other Motorola phones, the device is loaded with Moto Experiences or Moto Action. For instance, you can turn on the flashlight by quick chopping motions and look at important notifications without unlocking the mobile phone.

The fingerprint sensor works well and unlocks the phone in a flash. The call quality did not disappoint, as we clearly heard the other person’s voice. Overall, Motorola Moto E is an ideal alternative that provides excellent value performance-wise.
