Available exclusively with Cricket Wireless, the Alcatel APPRISE hit the market in September 2020. Alcatel has a long history of making user-friendly smartphones. The Alcatel APPRISE follows the same principles as other Alcatel devices but is more of an entry level smartphone than a flagship phone. APPRISE is another attempt by the brand at delivering a streamlined smartphone experience directly through the carrier.
Alcatel Apprise is a basic smartphone that lets you make and receive phone calls, text messages, listen to music and browse the internet. It doesn’t aim to compete with flagship phones. Instead, it is a budget-friendly alternative for larger Android phones or expensive smartphones. Let’s get into the in-depth Alcatel Apprise review.
The Alcatel APPRISE arrives in similar packaging as the Alcatel Insight. You can find the image of the mobile device with its specifications at the back. Opening the package reveals the SIM card and user manual. The Alcatel mobile phone is beneath the guide, protected by a transparent film. Below the Android phone are the charging adapter, Micro-USB cable, product safety information, and terms & conditions.

Compact in size, the Alcatel phone has a minimalist design. It features a 5.5-inch screen with thick bezels on top and bottom. There is no notch as the top bezel hosts the selfie camera and earpiece. At 168g, the device is a bit heavier than the Alcatel 1x. It is available in a single color – Suede Gray.
The matte finish on the back provides a better grip while giving a bolder appearance. The rear camera and LED flash are housed on a vertical panel near the top left edge. A grey-colored Alcatel logo is in the middle, while the Cricket branding is at the bottom.
The right edge of the Android device has the volume rocker and power button. A dedicated Google Assistant button is on the left edge. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is at the top edge, whereas the Micro-USB charging port is at the bottom edge.
Capture moments that are worth sharing with the Alcatel APPRISE. It features the following two cameras:
The 5MP primary camera isn’t meant for competing with high-end smartphones but does its job well. It can click share-worthy photos with friends and family. Photos clicked under broad daylight came out good with average colors and sharpness. The 5MP front camera is for making video calls and capturing selfies. Both the cameras can record 1080p videos at 30fps.
The camera app also has some good features. For instance, you can pre-crop a picture to whatever size you want with the adjustable aspect ratio. Use Panorama mode to fit more into the screen for a perfect scenic shot. You can quickly access the camera by pressing the power button twice to capture moments quickly. As long as your photographic needs are basic, Alcatel APPRISE won’t disappoint.
Alcatel APPRISE comes with a 5.5-inch Full View Display with a 960 x 480 pixel resolution. The display has an aspect ratio of 18:9, which is becoming a common standard among mobile devices. It maximizes on-screen content for better reading and viewing experience. Dragontrail glass protection ensures the screen is more durable than a standard smartphone screen and resists scratches.
The device also has a Dark Theme that consumes significantly less battery. It also allows you to use your cell phone comfortably in low-light environments. For the low cost of the device, the display is decent.
Be on the go all day with a 3,000mAh battery. According to Alcatel, battery life should keep up with 12.5 days of standby, 17 hours of talk time, 30 hours of audio playback, and 7.5 hours of video playback. The device takes approximately 3.5 hours to charge from zero to one hundred. The battery saver mode further increases the battery life by restricting and optimizing tasks that unnecessarily drain the juice. During regular usage, the Alcatel APPRISE should easily last a day.
You can capture more photos, store more music, and download more apps with the 16GB internal storage combined with microSD support for an additional 128GB. The 16GB storage should be sufficient if you only use the device for calls, texts, and light web browsing. However, if you love to capture lots of photos, play many games and download apps, buying a microSD card is a better option. Otherwise, you can purchase cloud storage on your Google account.
Similar to the Alcatel Insight, a MediaTek MT6739WW quad-core processor powers Alcatel APPRISE with 2GB RAM. The chipset handles basic tasks with ease. You can switch between apps, stream videos, and browse social media feeds with ease. However, the phone isn’t designed for heavy games. The purpose of the 2GB RAM is to deliver optimum performance for handling primary tasks.
It runs Android 10 Go Edition out of the box. Android Go is a special operating system designed to deliver efficient performance on entry-level smartphones. Google Maps, YouTube, Gmail, Facebook Lite, and all your favorite apps are optimized for lighter updates and better performance. The user interface is straightforward, allowing you to launch apps quickly.
To unlock the device, you can set up Face Unlock. As per Alcatel, Face Unlock scans a hundred points of reference to ensure quick and secure access to your device. You can also set up an unlock code for more security. Overall, Alcatel APPRISE performed as we expected.
The Cricket phone offers an intuitive smartphone experience, powered by the Android 10 Go Edition. It is a low cost phone but feels superior than its price would suggest. Alcatel APPRISE has got the basics down well, including good call quality, fast text messaging, decent battery life, plus a handful of extra features for taking photos. With its 4G LTE capabilities, you’ll be able to browse the web, stream music, and download applications quickly. This Android smartphone is ideal for Cricket Wireless users who want smartphone-like specs without spending big-phone money.
The warranty period for Alcatel APPRISE is two years.
No, Alcatel APPRISE does not support fast charging, but Alcatel 3x does.
No, Alcatel APPRISE does not have an IP68 rating, so it isn’t waterproof.
The M3 and T3 hearing aids are compatible with this device.
