Overview

The Motorola Moto Z Force Droid is an incredibly powerful device available to consumers in the US market on Verizon website. This is a flagship device from the well-known Motorola company that doesn’t spare any expense when it comes to incredible specs and revolutionary design. The Motorola Moto Z Force Droid is a 5.5-inch device that runs on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). At first glance, this phone looks a lot like its sibling the Motorola Moto Z. You will note the difference by looking at the device's girth which is thicker due to the significantly larger battery than its counterpart. This phone can compete favorably with other similar flagship devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 because the manufacturers took their time and gave it an incredible shatterproof display, a terrific camera, and some incredibly handy modular accessories.

Unboxing

Although this device was designed only for the US market, it is an incredible phone. It’s currently available as a prepaid smartphone with Verizon Wireless plans. In the box, you will find the Motorola Moto Z Force Droid, a style mod that instantly attaches itself to the back of the device, a USB-C adaptor that doubles as an earphones outlet, a charger, and a user's manual. The box is also neatly packaged to give a sense of exclusivity and class.

Design

The design of the Motorola Moto Z Force Droid is mostly similar to its younger sibling the Motorola Moto Z Droid but on a grander scale. And you can tell this by simply holding them in your hands. The Motorola Moto Z Force comes in at 155.9 x 75.8 x 6.99mm which is about 2mm thicker than the Motorola Moto Z Droid.

This phone was designed with precision and class. It delivers a unique blend of stainless steel and glass giving it the flagship look and feel it deserves. The designers made sure that this device would be able to battle it out between current and future competitors on the market.

The front side of the gadget has the usual aspects together with some new improvements. At the top of the display, we find the earpiece, the front-facing camera and a LED flash for selfies. Down at the bottom of the display, there is the fingerprint reader and two small holes near it. These holes are used to activate the Moto Display function which enables a user to get a glimpse of the time and current notifications just by the wave of your hand over the device. The fingerprint sensor is also strategically placed such that waking the device and putting it to sleep is as easy as placing your finger on the sensor.

At the back, you can immediately note the large bump caused by the camera. Despite the additional inches on the Motorola Moto Z Force, the camera still protrudes, but unlike the Z-Droid, this camera is much better. The fingerprint reader is strategically placed at the front given that the device's back is often covered by one mod or another be it the style mod, the battery mod, JBL Speakers mod or portable projector. The mod connectors are a set of sixteen golden ports that facilitate the transfer of power or data to and from the mod.

The power and volume rockers go to the right side of the device while the USB type C port goes at the bottom. Just like the Moto Z-Droid, this phone doesn’t have the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. However, the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that comes in the box will work with the earphones you have.

Camera

For some years past, Motorola has had a problem keeping up with imaging software on competitor brands; until now. The Motorola Moto Z Force is very serious about its camera. It sports a 21MP camera sensor with a wide f/1.8 aperture and other insightful features that come together to produce the best photo possible. The camera has phase detection autofocus, optical image stabilization, laser autofocus and dual LED flash.

Just as it was with some past predecessors, Motorola gave the Z Force the ability to start the camera app with two flicks of the wrist or tapping the power button twice.

The camera is incredible when it comes to taking professional or everyday photos even in low light. This camera beats many other phone cameras regarding overall image quality concerning the color accuracy, clarity, and dynamic range.

On the front, we have a 5MP camera which is also quite capable. The camera doesn’t have that many pixels, but it can take 1080p videos. Given that this camera lacks all the trappings of the primary camera such as the image stabilization, this camera is perfect for selfies. There is also a LED flash in case you want to shoot pictures in limited light conditions.

display.jpg

Display

The very first thing you note when you power up the Moto Z-Force is the 2560 x 1440 Quad HD AMOLED display. This incredible screen shows vivid details and deeply saturated colors. No matter the angle or even under direct sunlight, you are still able to view every detail on the screen without a problem.

What’s more, the Motorola Moto Z Force comes with reinforced Shatter-shield technology that assures users the screen won’t crack or break in a foot fall. This means that the user won’t have to buy additional screen guards that often make the device lose its luster.

battery.jpg

Battery

When it comes to the battery, the Moto Z Force has outdone itself. The device comes packed with a massive 3,500mAh battery which the company guarantees about forty hours of mixed use before you have to plug it in for charging. Various testers have put the device to the test, and the device has come as advertised. Given a mix of shooting photos, videos, texting, some light gaming, the device was able to reach the promised mark. When you need to charge the device, it’s much easier due to the fast charge technology. You can get about 15hours of power in about 20 minutes of charging which is good news all round.

storage.jpg

Storage

Since this is a flagship level device, we expect nothing less than flagship storage specs. The Motorola Moto Z Force is equipped with 32GB of internal storage coupled with 4GB RAM. For those that have massive amounts of data or prefer saving data on SD cards, the Motorola Moto Z Force also has a dedicated micro SD slot for additional memory of up to 256GB.

performance.jpg

Performance

The Moto Z Force comes fully loaded with a 2.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Quad-core processor together with an Adreno 530 GPU to handle the graphics. The processor and GPU available together with the 4GB of RAM onboard, you can be sure of a smooth experience no matter the application you choose to run. The Adreno 530 GPU is incredible at handling intense graphics like the ones in big games. When it comes to task switching, the Z Force operates with grace hence one of the best devices I have used regarding multitasking. Animations show up nicely and very fluid, thanks to the incredible RAM the gadget holds.

For matters connectivity, the high-speed 4G LTE guarantees fast internet access, hence a great video and music streaming experience. The device boasts a range of sensors to be aware of the environment. Such include proximity, accelerometer, compass, gyro, and fingerprint sensor. The gyro and accelerometer are useful in the gaming department; when coupled with the Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB of RAM, the Motorola Moto Z Force takes the gaming experience to another level. Typical connectivity features such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are also available. The NFC feature on the device comes in handy for secure and fast payments in stores and outlets.
