Overview

In the smartphone industry, devices with bigger screens happen to have even bigger price tags. But this is not the case with the LG Stylo 2 V. Competitively priced at only $240 (retail price), this device has some significant perks that you wouldn’t imagine a phone of its price range having. The LG Stylo 2 V has an incredible 5.7-inch screen, running Android 5.1 Lollipop with a decent 8-megapixel shooter and a battery to make sure you are covered throughout your day. Something else that was a pleasant surprise was the built-in stylus. Granted the stylus doesn’t pack high-end features as seen in the Galaxy Note 8’s S-Pen, it is still better having one on a budget smartphone.

Unboxing

The LG Stylo 2 V comes packaged in a neat and colorful box. Right off the bat, you can feel that the device inside has a premium air around it. Upon opening the box, you get an adequately packaged device with a few other things attached to it. In the box, you will find one travel adapter, your USB data cable; a get started guide in English and Spanish, a 3000mAH battery and the LG Stylo 2 V smartphone itself.

Design

  • 166 grams (5.85 ounces)
  • 154 by 79 by 9.7mm (6.1 by 3.1 by 0.38 inches)

The LG Stylo 2 V features a rectangular design previously spotted in its predecessors such as the LG G4 flagship phone. The phablet is made of grey polycarbonate so don’t expect it to turn heads. However, it has a subtle masculinity about it. The device’s border is made of plastic although it has a metallic look. As many devices continue to lose the headphone jack, the LG Stylo 2 V isn’t one of them. At the bottom of the device, we have the 3.5mm audio jack and USB charging port. The stylus itself has a soft, sensitive tip and is securely placed at the top of the device where it's not only quickly accessible but also easy to remove.

camera.jpg

Camera

  • 5-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 13-megapixel rear-facing camera

Taking notes from other high-end LG devices, the LG Stylo 2 V comes with laser-guided auto-focus technology to help you take the best quality of photos possible. Given the number of megapixels available to both our back and rear cameras, you can expect them to produce decent pictures that will compete fairly with other cameras in this price range. This is to say that the phone’s camera impressed me. With proper lighting, photos show true-to-life colors, objects are easy to make out, and pictures are in focus. In a not so conducive environment, the camera seemed to struggle a little. The LED flash on the back came in handy allowing the camera to take some nice shots even in limited lighting conditions.

battery.jpg

Battery

When considering which device to buy, battery power these days is critical to note. In this regard, however, the LG Stylo 2 V does not disappoint. Coming in with an impressive 3000mAh battery, the device readily provides you with a full day’s worth of power. In an effort to definitively show the strength of the battery, the phone clocked an impressive six hours streaming video over LTE on maximum brightness. When completely drained, the battery can charge up in 2 hours. Good thing, the battery is also removable, hence, it allows you to easily swipe out the drained battery with a fully charged, if you have a spare battery.

storage.jpg

Storage

This device comes by default with an internal storage capacity of 16GB. Given the high appetite for media and other digital content the capacity is likely to run out soon. Especially since the LG Stylo 2 V has some impressive cameras, you are likely to need additional storage space. The good news is that the LG Stylo 2 V additionally has a dedicated micro SD slot that supports memory cards of up to 256GB. We tested this out with Sandisk’s 200GB card, and it worked like a charm. So don;t hesitate picking up this incredible gadget.

display.jpg

Display

This device comes with a 5.7-inch high definition IPS display. This screen size is incredible and very versatile. This size of a screen is perfect for media and entertainment. With an approximately 72.7% screen-to-body ratio, you can be guaranteed that you won’t feel like you are carrying an abacus on your palms. Since the screen supports multi-touch capability, playing games on your device should be a fun adventure.

performance.jpg

Performance

  • Android 5.1.1 Lollipop
  • 1.2GHz quad-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM

A smooth experience is essential to enjoying your smartphone. This is why the device doesn’t drop the ball in this department. Sporting 1 GB of RAM, the phablet is fast and smooth enough to breeze through daily tasks without any hitches. Although it's not a powerhouse like many other devices, it’s a device to look out for. The factory release of the phablet comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop which can be upgraded to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) meaning smooth gliding through the system.

Network performance is also at par with other high-end smartphones in LG’s line of products. With 4G LTE capability, the phone was able to load web pages faster and as well consume less power as compared to using 3G-only phones. Call quality is incredible thanks to the award-winning Verizon wireless networks. The game department is also well-considered thanks to the Adreno 306 graphics unit that can play less intensive games smoothly.

If you are looking for an incredible phablet, the LG Stylo 2 V will undoubtedly hold its own. Its price is quite affordable, and the stylus does come in handy once you get used to it. If you can do without the pen and want a smaller device, the Galaxy J3 Mission can cover you.
