Huawei Sensa H710VL is a prepaid smartphone launched in the last quarter of 2016. There are two variants of the Huawei Sensa; Huawei Sensa H715BL and Huawei Sensa H710VL. Apart from the carrier network configurations, there's no difference in appearance when you look at either. The specifications and features are also similar. Huawei Sensa H710VL is a mid-range 5.5-inch smartphone that comes running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and has a fingerprint scanner. The phone is available from Straight Talk and Simple Mobile websites. Let's get into the full hands-on review.
So I got my order from Straight Talk and couldn't wait to see what was inside. Opening the box revealed the 5.5-inch Huawei Sensa H710VL centrally placed. I could see some information on the sides of the box about the amazing Straight Talk plans which I will discuss later in this review. Apart from the device, other contents in the box include the services guide and manuals, a wall adapter, a standard USB data cable, and SIM/micro SD ejector tool. It comes ready with a non-removable battery, so I just powered it on and started enjoying the experience.
The Huawei Sensa H710VL lies between a phone and a phablet. It's an expansive 5.5-inch device aesthetically designed to draw enough attention. The aluminum alloy textured body feels good to hold. I just fell in love with the gadget from the first time I took it out of the box.
On the right hand are the textured power button and the volume up-and-down buttons. At the bottom, you find what looks like dual speakers which may be confusing at first. But it's only the one on the right side that is the speaker; the microphone is on the left. At the center, you will find your standard micro USB port.
Coming to the left-hand side is your SIM card and your micro SD card tray. The headphone jack and the noise cancellation mic is up on top. The back of the device holds a lot. A 13 MP camera with a LED flash is placed centrally, a few inches from the top. Just below the camera is a fingerprint scanner.
The back cover takes the design of a polished aluminum alloy that feels nice in hand. At the front, is a 5.5-inch display. A 5 MP front camera is at the top side of the display and a notification light is up on the top right-hand side.
Huawei Sensa H710VL has 13 MP rear-facing camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera. The rear camera has autofocus capability that helps focus on a subject and capture clear shots. The camera can manage low light conditions well. I enjoy taking photos during sunset, and they are pretty amazing. The front camera is also good. Huawei manufactured an amazing device and paired it with equally good cameras. You can record a 1080P video at 30 frames per second.
Most of the time, I used the default mode when taking photos or videos. The camera has a pro mode where you can experiment with other features like panorama, HDR, all focus. I tested the all focus mode when taking a group photo with my friends and it was pretty amazing.
One feature that totally impressed me on the Huawei Sensa H710VL. The amazing 1080P 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. I enjoyed watching content on this device, especially the high definition 1080P YouTube videos. The large display is super cool; the display angles are great. I felt like I was watching from a tablet, but with a lighter device in my hand. One thing I noted is how it displays photos brighter and sharper. Huawei Sensa LTE uses IPS display technology, and I can say it's great even on the outside. I was able to operate it outside in the sun, and it felt good not straining my eyes to see what was on the screen. The IPS LCD display is also slow on battery consumption which is nice as it ensures more screen time.
Battery capacity on the Huawei Sensa H710VL is incredible. When purchasing a device from outlets or online stores, battery life is a major concern for me., and it is certainly a concern for most smartphone buyers. I like a phone that can withstand usage for at least 12 hours because sometimes am out traveling or working. The 3000mAh battery on the Huawei Sensa H710VL sufficiently satisfies this condition. That battery capacity is large; I have stayed out on several occasions and believe me, it survived. One other thing to note here; the battery is non-removable.
Huawei Sensa H710VL comes with an internal storage capacity of 16 GB. It is quite large for just saving your photos, music, and videos. I have had my Huawei Sensa for over a month, and storage space is not even half way filled. An external microSD card slot is available on the left side of the device; it can accommodate a microSD card capped at 32 GB. In case the internal storage gets depleted, I can advise you to pick a 32 GB memory card from your nearest store or make an online order. It is compatible with microSDXC memory cards from renown companies like San Disk and Samsung.
Out of the box, Huawei Sensa H710VL comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. On top of the Android OS, lies the EMUI customization from Huawei that makes Huawei phones to stand out from the rest. For the time I have had the device the performance has been fantastic.
It comes with 2 GB of RAM and an Octa-core processor (quad-core 1.2GHz and quad-core 1.5GHz) that provides faster performance. Animations are smooth, and there's no freezing when switching between apps. I played most of my favorite games from Google Playstore and the experience was great. Games like Mortal Kombat run pretty well. The graphics are super smooth.
Huawei Sensa has multitasking capabilities built into its core. Right from the screen, there's a floating button that acts like your taskbar and allows you to switch between your recently opened apps.
From the device settings, you can choose to use the Standard mode which has all features or the simple mode which has the basic features only.
It also allows for dual window mode which you can activate from device settings. In this mode, you can have two applications running simultaneously, and it doesn't affect the performance of the phone.
The fingerprint sensor has many applications as well. Swiping up will pop the status bar for all your quick actions, touching it again will hide the status bar. Swiping down on the fingerprint scanner pops up all your recent applications making it easier to operate the phone with just one hand. From settings screen, you can also assign certain fingerprints to launch certain applications.
Another cool feature is shrinking down the screen so that you can operate with just one hand. You can get this by swiping on the screen from left to right or right to left.
These are some really cool features to have on a device. What impressed me most is with all these features, the Huawei Sensa H710VL still maintained fantastic performance.
