Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz A463BG is an affordable smartphone for the lower end market. It is 3.5-inch in size and comes running Android 4.4 KitKat. It's available from the Tracfone Wireless website at a price you can't resist. In this review, we look at the detailed specifications of the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz, starting off with what you expect to get in the box.
The packaging of the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz A463BG includes the smartphone, battery, wall adapter charger, activation card, Tracfone service guide, and a quick setup guide.
The Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz A463BG is a 3.5-inch device with a typical Alcatel phone design. Given this is an entry level gadget, nothing is out of the ordinary on the design.
The front panel has the 3.5-inch display. Since it has a lower Android version, it doesn't have the floating navigation keys. Instead, it has the physical navigation keys. The arrangement is such that; the back key is on the left, the home key in the middle, and the menu key on the right. The upper part of the display only has the earpiece.
The back panel has a plastic matte design, with the Verizon logo at the center and the camera together with the hands-free speaker on the upper part. The back cover is also removable to reveal the battery compartment as well as the slots for the SIM and microSD card.
Moving on to the frame, we have the headset jack on the top edge while the microphone and microUSB connector are on the bottom edge. The right edge hosts the power/lock key and the volume rockers while the left edge has no buttons. That ends our design phase.
For shooting pictures and videos, the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz A463BG has a 2MP rear camera. This being on the lowest of the entry level market, there's no front-facing camera. A LED flash is also missing on the back camera, so it will only be efficient in good lighting. Considering the price tag on the phone, the camera is definitely a bonus and that we can understand.
Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz A463BG comes with a 3.5-inch TFT display with a pixel density of 167PPI. The plus here is that the phone fits perfectly in the pocket and one hand. The tradeoff is that the pixels are quite limited so enjoying a high definition video may not be possible. Nonetheless, icons and light graphics show up well, and there's no problem using the phone while indoors.
Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz A463BG comes with a battery capacity of 1150mAh that gives you about 6 hours of talk time and almost 12 days of standby. With no power sucking resources onboard and a compact screen, the phone will give you a full day of usage. Luckily enough, the battery is also removable, so you can always have a spare battery to swap with when the primary battery runs out.
Onboard storage on the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz A463BG is 2GB. This is a significant tradeoff. 2GB may not hold much stuff since part of it is used by the operating system. So you will definitely need additional storage. Luckily enough, the phone supports external memory expansion with a microSD card of up to 32GB. Purchasing a memory card for your phone will mean you enjoy more storage to store your additional files like music, pictures, and videos.
The performance of the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi Glitz A463BG is limited to the resources it comes with. It comes running Android 4.4 KitKat which is not the latest, but it's a good upgrade as you will find most phones in this price range are running even lower versions of Android. With Android 4.4 KitKat, you enjoy better usability features and some nice animations when navigating through the phone.
The phone comes with a dual-core processor operating at 1.3GHz. The phone can handle basic multitasking. Since only 512MB of RAM is available on the device, it can't run as many apps at once, but it will achieve the necessary tasks to ensure you get through your day.
The phone has 4G capabilities, which means faster browsing. Well, 4G is not 4G LTE, rather, it is enhanced 3G. Hence, is is faster than 3G. The phone comes with all the basic features for calling and texting like MMS, voice dialing, caller ID, messaging and more.
Connectivity features are also supported. It has Bluetooth 4.1 for quick sharing of files between nearby devices, Wi-Fi for connecting to hotspots. This is a useful gadget if you are looking for a smartphone to get by and also the pricing is attractive. Below follows a list of specifications and the pricing thereafter.
